Antique beds
Like many people (especially antique collectors) I love the look and emotion that genuine Antique beds offer. Nothing sets the tone of a bedroom setting more than a classic old world antique bed.
Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts influences on Antique beds
Although relatively short lived, the influence of both the Art Nouveau & Arts and Crafts movements had a profound effect on the direction of furniture design. The combination of simple linear lines accentuated with flowing natural motifs heralded a major shift toward the modern forms we see today.
A quick look at the number of beds in my repertoire shows the extent of my passion. Among my favourite are the Art Nouveau pieces that intersect with the Arts and Crafts movement, sharing a strong tradition of craftsmanship, organic design and fine timbers – elements that I’ve embraced particularly in my bed designs.
It’s true that my passion can border on obsession but I find the design movements of early 20th Century are a constant source of inspiration and the possibilities are endless.
Double or nothing?
While there’s no shortage of Antique beds on the market, sadly most are only double beds and /or suffer from a compromised base system that needs to be adapted to fit a modern mattress. For those among you who share my passion for antique beds, you probably also share the disappointment in making a choice between old world detail and modern Queen and King size comfort.
Ideal solution
A Lacewood bed is the ideal solution and offers the best of both worlds; stylish Antique bed designs presented in a modern Queen & King format. I’m committed to ensuring the finished piece offers the look and feel of a quality antique bed now while gracefully aging into the genuine article in the years to come. Here are a couple of my personal favourites but it’s worth taking the time to view the current range.
